To convert PNG to ICO free: open PDFWix PNG to ICO, add your PNG or JPG logo, tick the sizes you want (16, 32 and 48 px is the standard set), then click Create ICO file. Rename the download to favicon.ico and put it in your website's root folder.
PDFWix PNG to ICO draws the source image onto a square canvas at each selected size (16, 24, 32, 48, 64, 128 or 256 px), encodes each one as a PNG, and writes them into a single ICONDIR container — the standard multi-resolution .ico structure used by favicon.ico files and Windows shortcuts. PNG-payload ICO files are supported by Windows Vista and later and by every current browser. Everything runs on the browser canvas, so logos are never uploaded.
16×16 is the classic tab icon and still what many desktop browsers request first. 32×32 covers high-resolution screens, the Windows taskbar and Safari's tab strip. 48×48 is used by Windows site shortcuts, and 256×256 is what Windows shows at large icon sizes in Explorer. Ticking 16, 32 and 48 gives you the standard favicon.ico that works everywhere and stays under a few kilobytes. Modern sites usually pair favicon.ico with larger PNGs for phones and web apps — typically 180×180 for Apple touch icons and 192 or 512 px for Android. You can produce those with Resize Image once you have a square source. If your logo is a vector file, render it at a big size first with SVG to PNG, because rasterising from the vector is always sharper than enlarging a small bitmap.
Sizes in one file: Up to 7 (16–256 px) · Transparency: Kept from the PNG · Processing: 100% in your browser
Need other icon sizes for phones and web apps? Resize Image makes 180, 192 and 512 px PNGs, and Round Image Corners or Circle Crop shape them for app tiles and avatars.
Open PDFWix PNG to ICO, add the PNG, keep the 16, 32 and 48 pixel sizes ticked and click Create ICO file. The .ico file downloads straight away.

Yes. Each size is stored as a PNG inside the .ico file, so the alpha channel is preserved.
Yes, any JPG, PNG or WebP works. JPG has no transparency, so the background will be solid.
Rename it favicon.ico and upload it to the root folder of your site. Most browsers find it automatically.
No. The resizing and the .ico file are built by your own browser, so nothing is sent to a server.
Working on a full icon set? Resize Image makes the 180 and 512 px PNGs phones need, and SVG to PNG gives you a sharp square source from your vector logo.
