How PDFWix Flip & Mirror Image works

PDFWix Flip Image performs a canvas transform — scale(-1, 1) for a horizontal mirror and scale(1, -1) for a vertical flip — then re-encodes the picture in its original format at quality 0.95. Because the operation only reorders existing pixels, no detail is lost beyond one re-encode, and the image dimensions stay identical. Everything happens on the browser canvas, so files are never uploaded.

Flip, mirror or rotate — which one do you need?

Mirroring reflects the picture across a vertical line, so the left and right sides swap. This is the fix for selfies, for scanned negatives, and for artwork that will be printed onto transfer paper. Flipping reflects across a horizontal line instead, as if the photo were upside down in water — useful for reflections and for correcting images captured through a scanner lid or a microscope. Rotating is different: it turns the picture without reflecting it, so text stays readable. If your photo is sideways rather than reversed, use Rotate Image instead. And if you only want to flip part of a picture, crop that part out first with Crop Image, flip it, and rebuild the layout in your editor of choice.

Frequently asked questions

How do I invert an image left to right?

Use Mirror in PDFWix Flip Image. It swaps left and right, the same thing most people mean by inverting a photo.

How do I flip an image online for free?

Open PDFWix Flip Image, add your photo, pick Mirror or Flip and click Flip images. It is free, unlimited in quality and runs in your browser.

What is the difference between flipping and mirroring?

Mirroring swaps left and right; flipping swaps top and bottom. Mirroring is what fixes a reversed selfie.

Does flipping reduce image quality?

No detail is lost in the flip itself. The file is re-saved once at high quality, which is visually identical.

Can I flip several photos at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like and they all flip in the same direction, then download together.

Can I flip an image on my phone?

Yes. The tool works in mobile Safari and Chrome straight from your camera roll.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The flip happens on your device's own graphics engine.

Photo sideways rather than reversed? Rotate Image fixes that. To trim the frame afterwards, use Crop Image or Resize Image.
