Recommended upload sizes for circular avatars on popular platforms.
To crop an image into a circle free: open PDFWix Circle Crop, add your photo, choose Circle (or Rounded square), zoom in if needed, pick an output size such as 800×800, and click Crop to circle. You get a PNG with transparent corners, ready to upload as a profile picture.
PDFWix Circle Crop takes the largest centred square from each image (optionally zoomed in), clips it with a canvas arc or rounded-rectangle path, and exports a PNG so the pixels outside the shape stay fully transparent. Output sizes of 400, 800 and 1080 pixels square match common avatar requirements. Images are processed in the browser and never uploaded.
A circular picture is still stored as a rectangle — the corners outside the circle have to be something. JPG has no transparency, so those corners become solid white or black, which looks wrong on a dark-mode app or coloured slide. PNG supports an alpha channel, so the corners are saved as fully transparent pixels and the circle blends into whatever background it is placed on. Most platforms crop uploads into a circle themselves, but they do it from the centre with no zoom control. Cropping it yourself first lets you frame the face, add a coloured ring that matches your brand, and upload a file that already looks exactly how it will be displayed. For a square with soft corners — common for app icons and presentation headshots — use the Rounded square shape.
Output format: Transparent PNG · Avatar sizes: 400 · 800 · 1080 px · Processing: 100% in your browser
Need a different ratio instead of a circle? Crop Image does 1:1, 4:5, 16:9 and more. To make the file lighter for a website, follow up with Compress Image.
Open PDFWix Circle Crop, add the picture, choose Circle and click Crop to circle. The result is a PNG with transparent corners.
Only PNG (and WebP) can store transparency. A JPG would fill the corners outside the circle with white.
Yes. Choose Rounded square and set the corner roundness from 5% to 95%.
400×400 is enough for LinkedIn and X; 800×800 or 1080×1080 looks sharp everywhere including YouTube and Instagram.
Yes. Turn on the coloured ring and pick any colour.
